The Red - Black Separation Card TrickHi everybody! Malik the Magic Guy for expertvillage.com. Now I'm going to show you a classic of magic. This is based on a trick called "Out of This World," by Paul Curry. This is a great, great trick; learn this, you'll have a professional level card effect in your repertoire. This is a great trick. Now, what it's based on is the fact that you can actually tell the colors of cards just by your intuition. Let me give the deck a quick cut here, so we know that it's nice and fair, okay. We can-like this card is red, there's another red one, there's a black one, there's another red one, there's a-that looks black I think, that one's black as well, and this one's red. But see, the best part is people can do this without even knowing they know how to do this. Since we're going to create a red pile and a black pile for our friend Mr. Hand, and we're going to let Mr. Hand deal the cards onto whatever pile he thinks they go with color wise. So, if you think it's a red card you put it here, if you think it's a black card you put it here, deal them face down. Go ahead ... you're doing great. You know what? Let's stop there for just a moment, because I have a feeling you're doing really well, but you're doing so well, I'm going to mix it up just a little bit for you. We're going to change this pile to black, we're going to change this pile to red, and what I want you to do is keep going with the rest of the deck, as fast as you can deal the cards on whatever pile you think they go on, just like that. Use your intuition, use your instinct; I think you're doing great, I'm going to see in just a minute how you did ... okay, now let's see how Mr. Hand did, we'll turn these piles this way so you guys can see. Now in this case, this is the red marker, so all these cards should be red. And Mr. Hand did a great job; you can see they're all red cards. This is the black marker here; these should all be black, and again Mr. Hand is psychic-he did a wonderful job. Let's look at this pile. Same thing-there's the black, there's the red. Let's see how he did and once again. Mr. Hand did a perfect job separating the cards. And I'm going to show you how to do that really great trick in just a moment. |
Explanation of the Red & Black Separation Card TrickHi everybody! Malik the Magic Guy for expertvillage.com. Now I'm going to teach you that great, great version of "Out of This World." And this is a professional quality trick. I did this trick this way for many, many years, and even the guys here making the movie are real excited to be learning this. So I'm going to show you how to do it. It involves a full deck setup that I'm going to show you. Now it's sort of the red-black setup with a little bit of change. We have a bunch of black cards on the bottom, we have a bunch of red cards, and then we have a small setup with red and black cards. Now the way this goes is red, red, black, red, black, black, and then there's one more red one, so it's two reds, a black, a red, two blacks and a red. You can spread it this way so you can see it easier, but it goes red, red, black, red, black, black, red: that's pretty easy to remember if you run through it a few times. Now what that leaves you with is 22 red cards and 23 black cards, and you're going to put those together just like that, and you're going to take this setup, put it on top, stick it in the box. Now you can do your false cut if you want; this is a situation that you don't want the audience member cutting the deck. But then you talk about how you can tell the colors of cards just by dealing, by intuition, and you go through your setup. That's a red one, that's a red one, I think this one's black this might require a little bit of acting, this one's red, this one's black, this one's definitely black and this one is red. Now I know that I have this pile of cards left with 22 red ones, 23 black ones. We're going to give this to Mr. Hand. Now what you're going to do is take one red card, you're going to put it on your right, you're going to take a black card and put it on your left, and I'm going to let Mr. Hand start dealing cards where ever he wants. So he's going to start dealing the cards onto whatever pile he thinks is the right color; it doesn't matter cause they're all red. You go ahead Mr. Hand, start dealing. And what's happening is I'm counting in my head until I get to 22, so that's 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, and 22, and then I stop him there. Now what's happened is all these cards are red; and in the end this pile is actually going to be backwards, but I'm going to show you how to deal with that. Now we're going to change the colors of the piles, so this is the black pile and this is the red pile. And you want to encourage them to go as quickly as possible so the trick doesn't take forever, and deal the cards whatever they're thinking. Now you don't even have to count, you're just going to let them deal until they run out of cards because now they're dealing all black cards. |
