My name is Wayne Phelps. I'm a professional magician, and this is expertvillage.com. What I'm going to teach you is a classic palm. Any good magician has a classic palm in his repertoire. It's a great utility move use when vanishing coins or doing just about any coin trick. The classic palm is very important technique in magic and just about every coin trick out there requires you to have some working knowledge of how to do it. It's more of a utility than anything else because when you learn how to vanish coins you have to learn how to hold the coin in your other hand in a natural state that looks like coin isn't there. This is done by holding the coin between the muscle of the thumb and the muscle of the ring finger and the pinky finger. If done properly you should be able to turn your hand upside down without the coin dropping out. The key to finding the perfect classic palm position is let the coin rest on your middle finger and your ring finger and just press the coin up into your palm and where that coin is pressed usually is the ideal position for that coin in your hand. Practice this and don't worry if you drop it a few times. It's going to happen, but you should work to hold it perfectly in your hand and not have your hand look like it has given it way or look like you're holding something better. You might find that it's more preferable to use a silver dollar instead. Silver dollars are easier to grip and easier to palm more naturally. Alternatively if your hands are small you might find that the quarters work better for you as opposed to silver dollars or even half dollar, play with it, get the feel of what works, practice the classic palm and it'll make a better magician for it.
