French Coin Drop Magic Trick

Hi! I am Joe Marshall with expertvillage.com. I am a professional magician, and today we are going to go over some basic magic tricks. To break it down into finer detail, the French drop, you want to make sure the thumb is on top and fingers are in the bottom, and when the hand comes across to grab the coin, you drop with the thumb, you just release pressure so that the coin falls let gravity take it down, you do not want to like push it down and then mime grabbing the coin. The most important thing about when you turn your hand over: this hand should drop like dead weight, because when there is nothing in the hand it just drops out of view. This happens with everything; when somebody hands somebody a pen or pencil, the other hand will just drop once the object is taken, because it is not important anymore. The brain just disconnects it. So, it should be disconnected from the thing. Because if you are going to do it, and you are going to grab the coin like this, and your hand is still up in the air like this as you are doing this thing, it looks kind of silly that you are still holding your hand there, if there is nothing apparently in it. So you just drop it down, and also it will give you time to get in the classic palm from there, which I will talk about it in a second. But, anyway from the beginning, thumb on the top and fingers on the bottom. The hand comes over, you let gravity drop the coin, you mime taking the coin as the hand turns over, this hand drops it that way. You want this hand to move first, and then the hand really containing the coin to drop last like seconds apart though. It is a misdirection thing where their eyes going to follow this hand turning over. So, as they follow this hand turning over, this is when you want to drop out of view. With all the attention there it falls into the finger palm.
